The Web’s the Limit for the Aviation Community
New Website Offers Pilots a Geographic-Based Online Resource
A new interactive website, myAirport.com, is a free resource for general aviation pilots and airport users to connect with one another and to find specific information on an airport of their choice. myAirport.com is unique in its ability to connect every airport user on a local level to every one of the nation’s 14,000 general airports. Kevin Eldredge, a San Luis Obispo-based entrepreneur and Reno air-racing veteran, was inspired to create myAirport.com to promote, protect, and preserve general aviation. He teamed with AP Logic, a web design and software development firm also based in San Luis Obispo, to help analyze his business model, develop the site’s structure, and then construct the myAirport.com website to best meet his needs.
“myAirport.com is a shining example of a niche website portal project. Kevin’s business startup experience, vision, and marketing capabilities meant that he truly joined the team here at AP Logic and enabled us to move quickly and decisively,” states Jim Ratichek, President of AP Logic. “As a company that uses general aviation frequently to reach customers, we share Kevin’s passion and are very excited to see myAirport.com grow, as it addresses an unmet need.”
myAirport.com’s free classified listings, events, and user forums are geographically centered by airport. Pilots and enthusiasts may search for information and interact with a local or regional community, or expand their search radius to view information on airports throughout the nation. Because of the site’s ability to focus on specific airports, users can find items for sale in their local area or obtain information that is not available in the national pilot forums, such as airport land-use policies and management issues that affect every local airport user. This creates true, individual online communities for every general aviation airport in the United States.
"As a professional pilot I am always looking for local info when I travel; I can't wait to be able to connect to any airport I am visiting," says Scott Nelson, Chief Pilot for ACI, a global aviation services company. "I am excited to use myAirport.com as a resource to connect with other aviation groups that I might not have known about otherwise.”
AP Logic’s website architecture team designed the website to match Eldredge’s vision, utilizing a unique process to model functionality, look, and feel, and determine costs prior to beginning website development. As a result, design decisions were made to fit within budget and Eldredge was able to refine his vision prior to constructing the site.
“AP Logic’s expertise and methodical 3-step approach to building a web portal made the experience predictable and kept us on budget," states Kevin. "This project was huge, yet they stayed focused and on task throughout.”
